About Me
Alyssa Swedelius (She/Her)
With warmth, I present myself to you. My path as a birth worker began in the waiting room of a midwifery office during my own pregnancy. The care I received is what ultimately ignited my passion for birth work. The midwives met me where I was, listened with intent, sat with me in presence, provided loving guidance, and held me as I transitioned from Maiden to Mother. I had found my calling in this life, to serve women in the container of pregnancy, labor, and birth.
Those wise women left a mark on my life.
Before I pursued Doula training,
I had the honor to provide support to family and friends in the birth space. Later I enrolled in a Birth Doula training program through Bastyr University’s Simkin Center for Allied Birth Vocations.
Since then, I have continued my education through attending births as a trained Doula and independent study.
Outside of birth I am a mother, partner, friend.
I love moving my body in various ways, creating in the kitchen, making, reading, and writing. I’m here to love myself, others, and the earth that gives us life. Blessings to you and yours.
When our bodies speak, we ought to listen. What does your body need?
The color of our bleed speaks, the tenderness of our breasts speaks, our energy levels speak, and so on.
Along the path of inquiry into my own body, I learned of a healing modality, peri-steaming (or more popularly referred to as yoni steaming).
Peri-steaming is hydrotherapy for the reproductive system, moving physical and emotional stagnation. Peri-steaming has supported women in health globally for thousands of years, aiding in fertility, enhancing sexual vitality, soothing reproductive maladies, regulating the menstrual cycle, releasing trauma held in the womb, and connecting the female body into alignment with divinity.
Every body is different, with varying needs and I encourage you to search for your truth,
To learn the language of your body and blood. What a beautiful time to be alive! A time where the cyclical being flows with the rise and falls of the menstrual cycle. Nourishing the body with foods, movement, and rest accordingly. A time of reclaiming our bodies sovereignty, moving out of the 24 hour and into the juicy 28-day cycle. Let’s flow, let’s be!
My purpose to serve Women in Birth cascaded into the exploration of my connection to my own body.
A tender place where the heart and womb collide. I’ve come to know and believe that the womb is the creative center of women, not only for creating life, but the source we possess to bring forth our dreams and desires.
All the healing we need is within us.
As a birth doula,
I accompany women, their partners, and families throughout pregnancy, labor, and shortly after childbirth. I will provide continuous emotional, physical comfort, and informational support.
My role is to hold space in the sacred process of childbearing.
I offer soothing touch, suggestions for comfort/positioning, and massage.
I draw on my knowledge to help you and your partner advocate for the birth you desire, so that you may feel grounded in your decisions, trust your body, and lean into the magic of bringing your baby earth-side.
As your doula, I respect all your beliefs and choices surrounding birth.
I work with you and for you from a place of non-judgement.
I am independent and self-employed, meaning, I am hired by you. Not your care provider or hospital/birth center.
Every pregnant BODY is different and so is every birth.
Much of the time mothers hold stories about birth that are not their own. Where did these stories, ideals, messages come from? The culture, community, environment, and family they derive from.
Outside of that scope mothers also receive ideals from media, movies, and the news. Communicating how to birth, where to birth, and when to birth.
I’m here to listen and I mean really listen to you…
To tease out the intricacies within your heart, mind, and body.
As a sister, stand beside you, in remembrance of the inherent wisdom you hold as you usher in new life.
Let’s go slow, let’s get curious.
Birth is wild, expansive, intimate.
Giving birth takes women, birthing people, and female bodied individuals to their edges. Birth is transformative and raw. Birth is vulnerable and powerful. I honor ALL of you and believe in your birth.
You can trust your body and the physiological process.
Ground into the knowing that since the beginning of time birth has always been and always will be, birth. Beautiful. Natural. Perfectly variable.
Let me ask you: how, when, and where do YOU want to birth?
How do you perceive birth through your senses?
What does your birth feel like, sound like, smell like, and look like?
Who joins you through the process of bringing your baby into the world?
